Households with improved energy
Households with new or improved connections to electricity or other improved energy sources, such as for cooking and other household energy uses
Definition
Number of households provided with new or improved energy services in OPEC Fund-supported operations. Energy services considered include, for example: (i) electricity supply, (ii) clean cooking technologies or (iii) heating or cooling technologies. New or improved access to these services may be due to grid-connected or off-grid solutions. Improvements in clean cooking and/or heating or cooling, include the use of cleaner fuels (ethanol, solar technology, natural gas, electricity, etc.) or more efficient appliances.
This indicator reflects the aggregate results of all projects completed in the public sector, or those that have reached Early Operation maturity in the private sector. The OFRF presents both the most recent year’s results (for the 12 months leading up to June 30th of the stated year) and three-year rolling cumulative values (for the 3 years leading up to June 30th of the stated year), to address annual data variability and provide a longer-term perspective on development results achieved.
Why it matters for the OPEC Fund
Access to reliable and clean household energy improves living standards, supports health and safety, reduces the time and burden of household tasks, and enables social and economic participation. The OPEC Fund advances these outcomes through operations in priority areas as outlined in the Review and Update of OPEC Fund Strategic Framework 2030—specifically Infrastructure Development and Climate Action—by supporting electrification, modern cooking solutions, and cleaner household energy systems. This indicator aligns with SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
