OFID Director-General addresses VEF 2013
May 29, 2013, Vienna, Austria. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) was an active participant in the Vienna Energy Forum (VEF), which was co-organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. On May 28, during the opening speeches, a message from OFID Director-General Mr Suleiman J. Al-Herbish was delivered to the VEF audience. Other opening speeches were delivered by Mr Chad Holliday, Chairman, Bank of America; Ms Renate Brauner, Vice-Mayor and Vice-Governor of the City of Vienna; as well as a recorded message from UN Secretary-General Mr Ban Ki-Moon. Read Mr Al-Herbish's message. At the closing ceremony of the VEF on May 30, OFID received an award to thank the institution for its support and contribution to the forum over the past six years. Special thanks were given to Mr Al-Herbish for his "leading role in the fight against energy poverty." Accepting the award on behalf of the Director-General was Mr Faris Hasan, OFID Director of Corporate Planning and Economic Services. The award was conferred by UNIDO Director-General Dr Kandeh K. Yumkella. On May 30, Mr Faris Hasan, OFID Director of Corporate Planning and Economic Services, participated in Plenary Session 4: “Financing the Energy Future We Want.”
The Forum brought together over 1,000 participants, including heads of state, ministers, energy experts and representatives of international and non-governmental organizations. The VEF focused on the energy dimension of the Rio+20 outcome document, "The Future We Want", and concentrated on how energy should be integrated into the post-2015 global development framework.
