Industry
Industry drives development by increasing productivity, creating jobs and generating income. Industrial activity also provides opportunities for social inclusion and can empower women and girls and create decent youth employment.
Despite progress, the least developed countries are still far behind in manufacturing growth, according to information from the United Nations Statistics Division. While manufacturing value added (MVA) per capita has increased globally, broader industrialization has been hampered by intense concentrations of production in some countries and regions. This has resulted in marked inequalities, with industrial productivity varying widely between richer and poorer regions. There is still much work to be done to support sustainable global industry.
