Facts & Figures

The OPEC Fund was established by OPEC member countries in 1976.

We have committed more than US$22 billion to development projects in over 125 countries with an estimated total project cost of US$187 billion.*

The OPEC Fund has approved almost 4,000 projects across Public (1,612); Private and Trade Finance (500) sectors,  as well as Grants (1,889).*

Since launching, our private sector and trade finance operations have contributed to the development of 3.9 GW of electricity generation capacity.

We have dedicated US$1 billion to fund COVID-19 impact and recovery efforts in developing countries.

Funding under the OPEC Fund's private sector and trade financing windows has benefited more than 350,000 MSMEs.

Since launching our public sector operations, we have provided  11.5 million households with access to water supply and sanitation.

We have also constructed and rehabilitated 11,360 km of roads and railways.

The OPEC Fund bestows an Annual Award for Development to recognize the achievements of organizations and/or individuals working towards poverty reduction and sustainable development.  Introduced in 2006, the award includes US$100,000 in prize funds.**

*As of Dec 31, 2020

**Prize funds were divided equally when two recipient organizations were awarded in 2014.
