The project aimed to improve the performance of selected water and sanitation utilities in the targeted countries with a view to delivering better and sustained access to water and sanitation services. For this purpose, the project supported the implementation of five short-term Water Operators‘ Partnerships (WOPs) between utilities of the targeted countries and those from other five developing countries. In this regard, it built on the positive results and lessons learnt from a previous similar initiative to support nine WOPs in Africa which was launched in 2013 with OFID’s support (US$1.00 million grant approved in 2013). The project implemented most of its envisaged activities, with the exception of certain components that were interrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak during implementation. The preparatory activities included a kick-off online workshop, training of the co-implementing partners on the PMP and CP; launching workshop and training in Barcelona, intermediary and final workshops and monitoring process; and webinars on covid 19.
