This emergency aid grant supports Morocco in the aftermath of the earthquake with 6.8 magnitude that shook the country on September 8, 2023. This earthquake has been the deadliest to hit Morocco since 2004, killing at least 2,901 people and injuring 2,501 in Marrakech and five other provinces near the epicenter. In response, the OPEC Fund extended a US$500,000 grant channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to support the operations of the Moroccan Red Crescent. The grant focuses on the following areas: integrated assistance, health and care, including Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), protection and prevention.
