The Acceleratd Rural Electrification Program covers 3,825 villages in 16 north-east provinces and 742 villages in 4 other provinces, affecting a population of 5 million. The project, which is the first phase of the program, involves the erection of some 12,500 km of lines and the provision of all ancillary equipment from meters to voltage regulators and street lights. The project relates to current concerns for a more equitable income distribution within developing countries and for the development of the poorest sections of the community. The benefits of this proect will largely accrue to the population with the lowest per capita income in Thailand.
