The OPEC Fund was established by OPEC member countries in 1976.
We have committed more than US$30 billion to development projects in over 125 countries with an estimated total project cost of more than US$200 billion.
The OPEC Fund has supported more than 4,000 projects on four continents through public sector lending, private sector and trade finance support, as well as grants, technical assistance and emergency aid.
Our public sector operations, we have provided more than 11 million households with access to water supply and sanitation.
The OPEC Fund has built or upgraded nearly 200 schools and more than 100 healthcare facilities.
More than 2 million farmers have benefitted from our support to the agriculture sector.
We have installed or refurbished more than 6 GW of energy capacity, of which 1.5 GW are renewable. Additionally, we built or rehabilitated more than 15,000 km of transmission lines.
Funding under the OPEC Fund's private sector and trade financing windows has benefited more than 350,000 MSMEs.
We have also constructed and rehabilitated more than 11,000 km of roads and railways.
We have dedicated US$1 billion to fund COVID-19 impact and recovery efforts in developing countries.
The OPEC Fund is rated AA+/Outlook Stable by Fitch and S&P Global Ratings.
The OPEC Fund bestows an Annual Award for Development to recognize the achievements of organizations and/or individuals working towards poverty reduction and sustainable development. Introduced in 2006, the award includes US$100,000 in annual prize funds.
