Dr. Adejoké Babington-Ashaye

Dr. Adejoké Babington-Ashaye is an international legal expert with over 20 years of experience in international courts, tribunals, institutional governance, and accountability mechanisms. Her specializations include international administrative law, tribunal procedures, appeals processes, and dispute resolution within international organizations.

Previously, Dr. Babington-Ashaye served as Senior Counsel at the World Bank Administrative Tribunal. She also served as Senior Consulting Counsel at the International Monetary Fund, where she contributed to reforms of the institution’s internal dispute resolution system, including the development of procedural rules and guidance for the grievance committee.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Babington-Ashaye worked at the International Court of Justice as an Associate Legal Officer, supporting judicial deliberations in contentious and advisory proceedings involving complex issues of public international law. She also held roles at the International Criminal Court, contributing to international criminal investigations. Her broader experience includes advisory, research, and technical assistance roles with the United Nations, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.

Dr. Babington-Ashaye holds a Doctor of International Affairs and a Master of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Laws in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Buckingham. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Mediation from the University of London. She is admitted as an Attorney at Law in New York and is an author and co-editor of diverse publications on international law.
