The sewerage network in the Municipality of Zonguldak is in poor condition and under-functioning, and only around one-half of the inhabitants have household connections.
The project will therefore install a water conveyance system and rehabilitate existing sewerage infrastructure. Seven pumping stations will also be constructed. A new pipeline will be built to connect the expanded system to a new treatment plant with a capacity to handle 34,150 m3 of wastewater per day. By 2011, it is estimated that 107,000 new customers will be connected to the network, thus improving considerably the health and well-being of local residents.
