This project will rehabilitate the 102 km-long Zomba–Jali–Chitakale Road, an important link that passes through key agricultural areas in the southeast. The poor condition of the road hinders economic activity among the area’s 1.2 million inhabitants, most of whom rely on agriculture for a living. The project will thus upgrade the road, replace drainage structures and reconstruct bridges. The renovated road will enable the transport of inputs and produce more efficiently and improve the population's access to marketplaces and social services.
