In order to reduce bottlenecks and boost passenger and freight traffic, this project will fully rehabilitate heavily-traveled sections of the 296 km-long Yangon-Mandalay line connecting Yangon to Nyaunglaybin. New rails will be laid on 25% of the track and wooden sleepers will replace concrete ones. Ballast will also be replenished and drainage facilities built across the line’s total length.
