The project will upgrade water supply treatment plants and distribution networks in six cities: Chililabombwe in the Copper Belt province; Kawambwa and Mansa in Luapula province; and, Mbala, Mpika and Kasama in the Northern province. Works to be carried out will include the installation of approximately 49 km of pipes together with the rehabilitation of pumps, sand filters and reservoirs. In addition, repair works will be performed along the entire distribution network and on worn household connections. More than 200,000 people will benefit from the scheme, especially women, who currently spend a large portion of their time fetching water.
