This project will carry out the rehabilitation and improvement of irrigation infrastructure on a total of around 15,000 hectares in the Siem Reap, Kampong Thom and Banteay Meanchay provinces, where rural poverty is high and low agricultural productivity threatens food security. Priority will be given to rehabilitating infrastructure that is non- or under-functioning. Other works will inlcude:
- provision of agricultural extension support to farmers, including training in on-farm water and soil management;
- establishment of water user committees in beneficiary communities; and
- carrying out of capacity-building and institution-strengthening at the district and provincial level.
