The grant was extended to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to support four training courses for seafarers and instructors. During 1999 two regional courses were held, the first in Singapore for seafarers from April 5-14, 1999 and the second from August 16-27, 1999 in Sri Lanka for instructors. These courses were part of a major scheme which aimed at enhancing human resource development in the maritime field in the Asian region. Three training courses were carried out during the years 2000 and 2001.
