The project main objective is to provide sustainable access to safe drinking water to students in 3 schools and 4 universities, through the procurement and installation of small water desalination units in these facilities. The project was expected to benefit 3,000 school students and 28,000 university students in the targeted education institutions. Project Outputs and Impact: The project supported the installation of 14 desalination units with containers in the targeted schools and university buildings. The beneficiary institutions are Bani Suhaila girls elementary school; Al Shoka girls high school; the Islamic University, AlAqsa University, University College of Science and Technology and Palestine Religious Institute - Al Azhar in Khan Younis, Al-Azhar University in Gaza and in Al- Mughragah, University College of Applied Science in Gaza, Al-Esra’a University, Gaza University, Palestine University in Gaza and Al Quds Open University-North Branch. The project exceeded the above mentioned initial targets. About 56,000 students in 3 schools and 10 universities benefited from the project by having a very good quality of drinking water to be consumed during learning hours. In addition, 25 engineers and technicians attended a training workshop for the practical and theoretical operation of the new desalination units to sustain the project.
