With its mountain regions facing very specific challenges, the Albanian government has set-up two specialized institutions, the Mountain Areas Development Agency (MADA) and the Mountain Areas Finance Fund (MAFF), to help tackle poverty and stimulate economic growth in these areas. The project aims at strengthening the capacities of MADA and MAFF so that they may carry out their mandates effectively, mobilizing additional resources, promoting development of the rural private sector and improving small-scale rural infrastructure.
The micro-projects will be identified in close consultation with community organizations and will focus on infrastructural investments that provide a boost to commercial activity. Priority will also be given to innovations associated with product quality, food hygiene and safety, as well as product branding and marketing.
