Belize City comprises the divisions of Lake Independence, Collet and Port Loyola, where poverty high owing to the poor condition of infrastructure. The project will carry out a wide range of works, which will include:
- dredging of primary drainage canals and construction of new ones;
- construction of a network of secondary and tertiary drains;
- installation of a micro-sewage disposal system, together with a pipe network for future expansion in Port Loyola;
- elevation of public areas to protect against flooding;
- upgrading of roads;
- provision of concessional loans to low-income families for building new homes;
- establishment of a textbook rental scheme and school meals program; and
- creation of a a labor market integration program for young entrepreneurs.
