The project covers the third phase of the ‘Southern African Solar Training and Demonstration Initiative’ (SOLTRAIN), which was launched in 2009 with funding from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and OFID, and aims at reducing energy poverty by improving access to renewable energies, specifically solar thermal solutions. Building on the achievements of SOLTRAIN I and II, the main purpose of the proposed project is to strengthen the partner institutions and governmental bodies of the selected countries in the implementation of their sustainable national solar thermal roll-out programs. The activities of the project will include policy workshops, development of national solar thermal roadmaps and installation of solar thermal demonstration systems and will target 750 participants to improve their skills concerning design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of solar thermal systems. Additionally the demonstration systems will help in reducing energy bills and improving the hygienic standard of approximately 7,000 beneficiaries.
