The grant has been extended to the SNV Netherlands Development Organization with the overall objectives to contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) goal that aims to ensure 'universal access to modern energy services' in rural areas of Zimbabwe; and to improve access to modern energy services that contribute to better economic and social well-being of rural men, women and children in Zimbabwe. The specific objective of the project is therefore to demonstrate a decentralized renewable energy model for public private investment in rural electricity anchored to key rural economic drivers such as irrigation facilities/agro businesses and social service delivery. The project will directly benefit 10,000 beneficiaries in approximately 2800 households in Gwanda South district. The project achieved two main sets of outputs: 1. Equipment: Mini grids powered by renewable energy designed and installed, and 12 energy kiosks were installed. 2. Capacity Building: - Conducted training of trainer courses on governance of community energy service companies, kiosks and mini grids; - Conducted technical and management training for energy kiosk operators; - Conducted training for Energy kiosks power plants operators; - Conducted training for farmers on participatory approaches and organizing a learning visit to a solar-powered irrigation scheme in Gutu.
