SFD programs have made significant inroads in reducing poverty, boosting self-employment opportunities and enhancing incomes in Egypt. Some of the primary goals of the present project are to improve livelihoods for some 14,000 families, help empower women, increase access to financing in rural areas, and help existing businesses grow and diversify their activities.
One half of OFID’s loan will be allocated to providing financing, technical assistance and training to micro- and small enterprises. The remaining $12.5 million will go to NGOs and microfinance institutions for on-lending to target groups, such as low-income families, entrepreneurs, small farmers and unemployed youth, as well as victims of natural disasters.
