This project is the follow-up to an earlier initiative completed successfully in 2002. The target areas under Phase II are the North East and the North West Regions, two of the poorest in the country. Aims are to increase yields and to develop both agricultural production systems and other income-generating activities.
In total, the project will renovate 2,200 ha of existing irrigated schemes and install new schemes over an additional 800 ha. Support will also be given to on- and off-farm micro-projects to help diversify and increase incomes. Around 85,000 people will benefit from the project’s various activities.
