Crossing several passes that reach elevations of over 4,500 meters, the 38.5-k long Shkev-Zigar road located in the Gorno-Badkhsan Oblast often receives heavy snowfall that causes road closures for over two months per year. Vehicle operating costs are high since traffic must be diverted through longer routes. The project will therefore carry out the following:
- rehabilitatation the Shkev-Zigar road with an all-weather surface;
- installation of drainage works to prevent flooding;and
- construction of eight bridges.
