The project will extend water supply and sanitation services to 853,000 people in 16 secondary towns. Wherever possible, water distribution systems will be expanded through individual house connections. In poorer areas, where households cannot afford the cost of an individual connection, shared metered standpipes will be installed. Works will also include:
- provision of wells and water points in areas that cannot be reached by the piped network
- construction of community, school and public toilets
- carrying out of awareness campaigns promoting good hygiene practices
- institution strengthening component to improve water and sanitation management capacities at both national and local levels
