Bangladesh’s susceptibility to flooding has serious consequences in urban areas. The project, therefore, aims to provide a flood-free, secure living environment in nine towns. Activities will include, among others:

  • construction of flood embankments
  • reinforcement of dikes
  • excavation of new canals and enlargement of existing water courses
  • installation of drainage works
  • capacity-building to strengthen the ability of local authorities to manage and maintain the new infrastructure
The completed project will bring many benefits to Bangladesh’s town dwellers, as they will be able to access markets and social services more easily. The project will also generate considerable income-earning opportunities, thus helping reduce poverty.
