Government is striving to provide the population with an equitable, well-rounded education. Accordingly, it has identified 20 rural schools across the country that are in extreme disrepair, having been built over 50 years ago. This situation not only undermines learning, it also places pupils at risk in areas that are seismically-active.
The project will construct 20 modern, fully-equipped secondary schools, creating places for 6,300 pupils. Recreation and sports facilities will also be built. On completion, the project will help insure that youth, who comprise almost half of the population, receive a good basic education that will enable them to pursue higher education and eventually secure well-paying jobs.
