Only about 35% of Albania’s 15,000 km road network is paved, while the rest is in poor condition, making it difficult and expensive for farmers to transport their produce to urban centers. Government aims to improve the population’s access to essential services and marketplaces by upgrading its road network, and in turn, help reduce poverty.
The project roads are located in the western regional departments of Durres and Lezhe, where approximately 44 km of secondary and local roads will be either rebuilt or rehabilitated. Once complete, the improved access to markets, distribution centers and social services will benefit some 25,000 individuals.
