The project represents the second stage of the Ramagundam development scheme, the first phase of which also received OPEC Fund support in the amount of US$20.0 million. The second comprises three 500 MW generating units and associated transmission lines, totalling about 1,400 km of 400 kV lines. The project will bring the Ramagundam Power Plant to its final envisaged installed capacity of 2,100 MW and thus help meet the rising demand for electricity in India's southern region.
