This project supports ongoing activities of Ghana’s Social Investment Fund (SIF), which implements small-scale, demand-driven sub-projects with the aim of boosting incomes and raising living standards among the rural poor. Phase II will initially target 35 districts that were added to the original SIF program in 2003. Activities will include, among others, improvement of infrastructure; establishment of revolving credit programs for on-lending to the poor; and capacity building among community organizations, NGOs, micro-finance institutions and local government administrations. At least 100,000 people will benefit directly from the SIF sub-projects through improved economic infrastructure and increased access to social services.
