The project constitutes the second phase of the PEA Accelerated Rural Electrification Program. It comprises the electrification of 7,878 villages, as well as a feasibility study on mini-hydro schemes and consultancy services for the PEA. The project will benefit an estimated 6 million rural poor through increased agricultural productivity and an improved quality of life and will reduce the country's dependence on imported energy through diversification away from kerosene and diesel oil.
