This project covers a scale-up phase of an existing water treatment and distribution program launched in early 2011 with the aim of enhancing access of the rural population of four regions of Senegal (Sine Saloum, the riverbank of the Senegal River in the north of the country, Kedougou in the East and Casamance) to safe drinking water. The project is expected to benefit directly about 125,000 people living in 50 poor rural communities in remote parts of the Sine Saloum, Kedougou and Casamance regions.
