The overall objective of the project is to support Government’s efforts to reduce poverty, economic and gender inequality and social exclusion in the country’s rural areas. Activities will include, among many others:
- investment in social and environmental infrastructure, such as water harvesting facilities to serve drip-irrigation systems;
- construction of 4,600 sanitation facilities;
- provision of 6,000 firewood saving cooking facilities;
- construction of garbage collection centers; pesticide handling facilities and mobile sanitary units;
- reforestation of approximately 18000 hectares;
- establishment of a skills training and outreach program for some 14,000 people;
- upgrading irrigation systems and agricultural equipment;
- investing in rural business infrastructures, such as vegetable processing plants, coffee plantations and grand packing facilities;
- technical assistance and studies; and
- project management.
