Although Jamaica has a fairly extensive road network, totaling some 17,900 km, more than half of all roads have been classified as being in poor condition, particularly rural roads. This situation is particularly acute in the parishes of Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, home to some 244,000 people, where three key links are in urgent need of rehabilitation. The project works will include:
- rehabilitatation of the three links, totaling 22.1 km, by removing the existing surface and re-paving with asphalt;
- installation of drainage systems and culverts; and
- installation of road safety devices.
