As part of its road sector development strategy, Government is placing high priority on rehabilitating key links of the national road network. The project will carry out the following:

  • repair of four important stretches totaling 47.67 km and paving with asphalt;
  • installation of drainage systems;
  • carrying out of a detailed design study on the Mandela Highway, where heavy rainfall often causes sections to be closed.
The newly-rehabilitated roads will do much to promote economic activity through the safer, swifter transport of agricultural inputs and produce, and help rural communities access social services. Jamaica’s construction industry will also receive a boost as the project will utilize locally-produced materials.
