Poverty in Nepal is largely a rural phenomenon, accounting for around 95% of the country’s poor. The project will cover 38 districts located in the western, central and eastern mountainous regions of Nepal, benefiting some 2.6 million people. Works will include:
- rehabilitation of infrastructure such as water supply and sanitation networks, irrigation schemes, schools and health posts;
- implementation of community empowerment initiatives;
- carrying out of institution strengthening measures;
- rehabilitation and upgrading of 825 km of rural roads;
- construction of around 50 bridges totaling 1,260 m; and
- provision of road markings and signs.
