The objective of this project was to meet the increasing demand for energy in rural areas, where electricity is needed for small and medium-scale cottage industries, irrigation and public lighting, as well as for domestic use. Some 4,750 km of new electric lines were installed, 750 km of existing lines rehabilitated, and 12 substations built.
