Local food production in Congo remains inadequate to meet the food needs of the population, despite the agriculture sector’s favourable potential. Many basic foodstuffs must therefore be imported. This project aims at removing production constraints in the fertile departments of Niari, Bouenza and Lékoumou. Activities will include:

  • renovation of feeder roads;
  • construction of wells and boreholes;
  • introduction of improved seeds and production techniques;
  • provision of support to farmers’ groups; and
  • development and expansion of microfinance institutions.
Around 30,000 families are expected to benefit from the project through improved food security and higher incomes.
