This project will upgrade and rehabilitate 220 km of rural access roads in some of the most isolated areas in Attapeu, Houphan, Xaisomboun and Vientian provinces. Heavily used sections will be paved, while less-traveled sections will be gravel-surfaced. Mountain roads will be paved with extra durable materials. Carriageways and shoulders will be widened, with more width provided on stretches near villages, markets and other congested areas. Drainage systems will be installed to reduce the risk of flooding.
Nearly 6,400 households are expected to benefit from the provision of year-round, reliable access to marketplaces, employment, health services and educational facilities.
