Although the road network is the dominant mode of transport in the Philippines; only around 20% of the 205,500 km network is paved. This project represents the first phase of a government program to improve approximately 1,840 km of national roads. Works will include:

  • rehabilitation and reconstruction of around 356 km of 10 roads in the Luzon, Visayas and Mindaneo regions;
  • implementation of a maintenance plan; and
  • capacity building measures introduced at the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The enhanced network will help contribute to poverty reduction by lowering transport costs and providing cheaper, more efficient travel.
