Although the road network is the dominant mode of transport in the Philippines; only around 20% of the 205,500 km network is paved. This project represents the first phase of a government program to improve approximately 1,840 km of national roads. Works will include:
- rehabilitation and reconstruction of around 356 km of 10 roads in the Luzon, Visayas and Mindaneo regions;
- implementation of a maintenance plan; and
- capacity building measures introduced at the Department of Public Works and Highways.
