The project aims at improving transportation infrastructure in the hilly northern part of Nepal to reduce isolation and support the economic growth of rural communities.
Covering 17 of Nepal’s 75 districts, the project will expand and upgrade a total of 10 feeder roads totaling 490 km in length. To protect vulnerable groups in the newly opened-up areas from threats such as human trafficking and HIV/AIDS, which remain serious problems in Nepal, a special protection program will be put in place. On completion, around 1.4 million people are expected to benefit from the project, through improved access to markets, jobs and health and education services.
