The objective of this project was to upgrade the maternal health facilities in the Gaza Strip, through renovation and/ or expansion, therefore enabling women in Gaza to access suitable health services. This intervention addresses two of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), namely, Goal 4 to reduce child mortality rates, and Goal 5 to improve maternal health. Project Outputs: * The existing nursery building with total area of 450 Square meters including sewage networks and medical gases in Al Shifa hospital in Gaza city expanded and operated; * New floor constructed including skeleton, finishing and all related mechanical and electrical works and two floors completely rehabilitated with a total area of 900 Square meters in Al Tahrir hospital. Project Impact: * Nursery building at Al Shifa hospital in Gaza expanded by 25% area; * Capacity of Al Shifa nursery increased by 30% to host extra 14 incubators; * Al Tahrir maternal building at Nasser Complex in Khanyounis expanded by 25% area; * Two maternity services floors completely rehabilitated at Al Tahrir hospital.
