The grant was extended to UNDP/PAPP (Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People) in support of the implementation of the project "Renewable Energy Generation through Solar Panels for Public Education, Health and Water Facilities in the Gaza Strip". The project was intended to promote the diversification of energy sources through introducing new technologies in conventional and renewable energy, and support the education, health and water sectors with alternative solutions using renewable energy. Project Outputs: 1. The construction of solar cells for four schools for lighting purposes. The Four schools are: Basheer AL Rayes in Gaza city, and Akka in Khanyounis, Raba’a Al Adawiyah in Rafah and Al Falouja in Jabalia; 2. The construction of solar cells for one 10HP submersible pump providing water for Down syndrome children society near the eastern borders of Gaza; 3. The construction of solar cells for two health care clinics for lighting purposes. Two maternity clinics are namely; Hassan Al Harazeen in Gaza city and UAE Red Crescent clinic in Rafah; 4. The concept of renewable energy was mainstreamed among students, teachers, and health workers in the targeted facilities. Project Impact: On average, 50% of the energy consumption in target facilities will be saved as a result of this intervention.
