The railway line connecting the capital Sarajevo to the port of Ploce in Croatia represents one of the most important transport links in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1966, the majority of the network is being upgraded in order to bring it up to European and International Safety Standards.
Rehabilitation of the Sarajevo–Bradina section will be carried out in two phases, with the OFID sponsored project involving the overhaul of the station interlocking, telecommunication and route-control systems, as well as carrying out related electrical works. On completion, the efficiency of the railway will be enhanced, as the maximum running speed will increase significantly thus eliminating bottlenecks and reducing travel time.
