Agricultural production in Korea DPR has suffered a severe decline, caused in part by a series of natural disasters and dilapidated infrastructure. As a result, stocks of the country’s main staples, rice and maize, have been depleted and food shortages are widespread. Project works will thus include the following:

  • conversion of the Pyongnam Irrigation system with a gravity-fed one
  • construction of an intake barrage and the last 100 km of a 154 km-long canal
  • construction of 25 tunnels with a total length of 22 km
  • installation of 375 large hydraulic structures
  • construction of 50 bridges
Once completed, crop production is expected to increase substantially.
