This project will involve the following:

  • replacement/rehabilitation of cyclone-damaged schools in the provinces of Fianarantsoa and Toamasina;
  • refurbishment of approximately 180 primary and 20 secondary schools will be refurbished;
  • rehabilitation of around 770 classrooms and construction of 300 new ones constructed;
  • improvement of teacher training; and
  • provision of textbooks, instructional training and equipment.
The new infrastructure will create around 27,000 places for primary and 5,100 for secondary pupils.
