The overall goal of the project was to sustain an increase in meat and milk production to meet local demand, and thereby reduce poverty and improve living conditions among farmers in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Our grant was specifically used to cover the procurement of crossbreed heifers and Zebu heifers. The 1st batch of 75 heifers was purchased and shipped from the mainland to Zanzibar in early 2001 and the 2nd shipment of 100 heifers took place in early 2002.
