The project will enable the marine facilities at Salif to handle tankers of 60,000 tons that will greatly reduce the present high cost of importing petroleum products in small tankers to Hodeidah. The receiving terminal at Salif will also provide the strategic storage required to meet supply interruption. The pipeline from Salif to Sana'a will be capable of transporting all white petroleum products to Sana'a until the year 2006. The installations along the pipeline route at Al-Turbah, and at Ma'abar will supply the neighboring areas of Hodeidah in the west and areas up to Ibb in the south.
