OFID partnership with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) supported original and unconventional research to advance the design and development of AIDS vaccines that work in humans to stop the virus before initial infection, control HIV should infection occur, slow disease progression, and limit viral transmission. The aim of the project was to develop the capacity for AIDS vaccine research of IAVI's flagship clinical collaborating research centre in Kenya, the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI), and to support IAVI's highest priority research programme, solving the neutralizing antibody problem.
