The project aims at empowering the rural poor to participate more effectively in the country’s development and improve their income-generating abilities. Another aim is to reduce gender disparities in economic activities. Activities will include:

  • provision of workshops and training programs to farmers and community-based organizations;
  • provision of labor skills training to the landless and impoverished young men and women;
  • establishment of a Productive Investment Fund to teach low-income farmers enhanced irrigation and cultivation techniques;
  • development of business plans to support rural entrepreneurship;
  • establishment of a dedicated fund to help financial intermediaries expand their services to the target population;
  • implementation of institution strengthening and capacity building measures.
At least 36,000 individuals are expected to benefit from the project.
