The project area will encompass seven districts in Louangphrabang and Xaignabouri Provinces in northern Laos, two of the poorest regions in the country. Works will include the following:

  • improvement of some 367 km of Route 4 from Xiang Ngeun in the north to Nakha on the Thailand border
  • replacement/repair of culverts
  • installation of drainage works
  • construction of a bridge spanning the Mekong River and connecting the two provinces
  • rehabilitation of around 100km of rural access roads
  • implmentation of road maintenance schemes
  • resettlement of households affected by project works
Providing year-round access will help promote food security and improve living conditions for the beneficiary population.
